How long does it take to get to Thredbo?
A trip from the Sydney CBD takes approx five hours. From
Melbourne it takes about 5.5 hours.
Canberra is only a 2.5 hour
drive. Cooma is approx a one hour and 10 minute drive.
The celebrations flowed all year long in 2007 as Thredbo turned 50.
What a journey over those 50 years it has been, taking Thredbo from
a few chalets and rope tows in 1957 to the thriving year round
village it is today.
Thredbo was established back in 1956, when the first chairlifts and
lodges transformed the snowy terrain into a snow rider’s dream.
Thanks to this early vision, Thredbo now has a permanent population
of 200 and has developed into year round resort enjoyed by close to
a million people each year.
When will it snow?
Well anytime really, but from May you can expect regular
snowfalls. The great thing about Thredbo is that
there is a
dedicated team of snowmakers whose job is just that, to
make snow
grow. To see the history of
snow depths check out the
chart from
the past 50 winters with information provided by the Snowy Hydro
Ltd. To find out all the latest snow and weather conditions, snow
depth etc go to thredbo.com.au/snow
Is June a good time to come?
There are great deals available in June this year, so in that
respect it is a good time to come and with Thredbo’s snowmaking team
getting underway in mid May there’s sure to be some snow on the
ground.
